Labour are set to choose a candidate to fight for the Holborn and St Pancras parliamentary seat.
WE believe Keir Starmer is the outstanding candidate to represent Labour for Holborn & St Pancras at the next election.
Keir is a team player with exceptional personal qualities of integrity, fairness and sound judgment. He will work tirelessly for us locally but also bring a wealth of experience from outside the political bubble and ensure that all the vibrant and diverse communities in our constituency have a national voice. The general election will define our society for generations to come. The lasting legacy of this Conservative-led coalition is the return of food banks to an advanced industrial economy and the fragmentation of vital public services like the NHS and education. Our country could be left carping from the sidelines in Europe. We could have no effective voice in tackling pressing international issues such as climate change. There is also deep -rooted cynicism in the political process which we must confront.
Labour Party members now have the opportunity to select a decent, principled candidate with a strong track record of fighting inequality and taking difficult decisions. As Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir showed bold leadership on issues like phone hacking, MPs’ expenses, historic sex abuse, middle class tax evasion or moral issues such as assisted suicide.
As a leading human rights lawyer, Keir has an established record of fighting for trade unionists, such as against the Tories’ pit closure programme. He has worked with oppressed groups whether in the UK, Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Far East. Keir is committed to the rule of international law, speaking out publicly and unambiguously against the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Keir is a family man who has lived in Kentish Town for many years with his wife and two children. He has proved that there are no glass ceilings for the son of a tool-maker with the will to succeed. We have no doubt Keir will dedicate himself to being a hard-working, inclusive constituency MP. He will use his wide experience to identify and advocate solutions to the problems brought to his surgery. He will also work to secure real change on the big issues that matter to our people – the economy, inequality, high quality local public services - by challenging, informing and influencing the national and public debate.
