Keir Starmer

Tory Government failing to build the homes we need

Upon the release of the latest figures showing that housebuilding in the UK fell at the end of last year, Keir Starmer, standing as Labour’s Candidate in Holborn and St. Pancras said, “These figures highlight the failure of the Tories and Lib Dems over the last five years to tackle the housing crisis by building the homes we need.”

Keir Starmer added, “In Camden average house prices are way out of reach for most people and weekly rents are now 64% of the average income. Camden’s Labour council is building 1 in 20 of the council homes built UK-wide even as the Tories slash the boroughs funding. Ed Miliband has pledged a Labour Government to build 200,000 new homes a year by 2020. Those renting in the private sector will also benefit from three-year tenancies and limited rent rises, along with an end to rip-off letting fees.  Housing is one of the biggest issues people raise on the doorstep, and I will work tirelessly to ensure it becomes the national priority it needs to be.”
